Redraw Storyteller
2016
In the year 2016 I drew a picture of my Character Gin, who’s a mysterious witch.
Back then I used Manga Studio for the first time and was rather proud of the picture. I also used to work on a Wacom Intuos, rather than on a screen tablet.
Though these days I see the colour theory is lacking on the picture, it was desaturated, the black lines also drained the life of the picture and I can’t actually tell where the light is coming from…
So I decided to redraw this one!
2021
So I did just that in 2021 in Clip Studio on iPad.
I used the book as primary light source this time and the space cape and background as secondary light so I could guide the shading.
Instead of black lines I used the whole colouring as an overlay on the lines to create darker lines in a similiar colour to the layers it frames.
Since 2016 I learned a lot about stylization and I think it’s discernible on the 2021 version.
I also changed the pose slightly on the hands as it didn’t sit right with me anymore.
