Der Stoff im Zug

Frankfurt Fashion Week 2021

Concept for Augmented Reality

Our Fashion Designer had the basic concepts for their fashion lines, that the virtual model would show their inner selves and with that defy conventional standards.

Together we established a plan how we could transform both scenario ideas of the fashion designer into one solid project. We called it „Der Stoff im Zug“ combined of both ideas. It was supposed to show a „plain person“ in the train by light at first and when the watcher gets closer it would trigger the transition through particles and turn to a blue light scenario where the character is dancing in their „true self“.

Character Design - Concepts

Damian, my classmate, also created sketches for this project and we decided on which body type we’ll choose and what face the character is going to get, which would then be modeled by David and Halil.

I even created a fashion design myself, according to the idea of the designers, since the necessary deadline have been ignored by one partaking designer… The top was supposed to be more casual and concealing their true patterns, which you would then see at their bottom part through the skirt, shoes and the fishnet pantyhose.

For that design I made several colourschemes and let my fellow creative cluster teammates decide, which they liked best. The teal jacket with the red and purple skirt won.

When we wanted to decide on the faces I also created three looks alongside Damian and also added how much more colourful the character will be within the „true self“ look and went „raceblind“ on this one.

Engine

Unity

We used the engine Unity to create our scenario, as it was decided by our university and was compatible with the AR-Plugin we had to use. While we didn’t have any expert on programming within our group, I tried to teach it myself through many tutorials on the Web… It went semi-good but we did have a promising Scenario on hands. Especially thanks to our amazing 3D-Modeler.

AR

Due to complication in the management, we weren’t able to see our Project within the AR-World, which was sad, as it would’ve helped me to see the problems head on and thus grasp what I would have to change to make it better, since we did have a scale-problem and I had to blindly try and find the solution, always communicating back and forth with our docent.

Github

Using Github was on one hand very handy, as it was good to communicate with our docent about the latest changes of the project, but at the same time it also led to a lot of confusions, as many of us never used the system before, myself included.
